‘Devil On The Scene’ is the latest offering from the collab group, Birthed as the side project of Sam Abbo - bassist in rising jazz-punks Opus Kink -this time bringing together fellow Hideous Mink Records alumni Fake Turins and The Winches. Dominic Rose (Fake Turins) and Maisy Banks (The Winches) combine the best of their individual styles, the louche slicked-back overtones of ‘Devil’ complemented by a tongue-in-cheek playfulness that calls to mind Leonard Cohen, Talking Heads and the soundtrack work on films such as ‘The Good Thief’ or ‘The Great Beauty’. Abbo’s own instrumentation and refined layering elevates these cinematic tendencies and ensures that an irresistible bassline and kick-drum combination anchors the single in its dancefloor aspirations.
Fake Turins are hot off the back of a sold out headline show at Electrowerkz after releasing latest single ‘Parcel Duchamp’. The Winches are a fresh-on-the-scene South London folk outfit whose debut single ‘Punch & Judy’ was released early in 2022, also on Hideous Mink.
