Scarlett Woolfe keeps a rather busy schedule, filling her diary to the brim and using her precious time meaningfully. Whether hosting her own event housed at The George Tavern, ‘A Woman Becomes A Wolf’, playing solo shows or performing with her group Weaving In Purgatory. The London based musician is often found expressing her creativity on a stage all the while importantly creating spaces for people to express and explore their own.

Upon her latest single, Woolfe focuses her attention toward her solo work in the form of ‘Mother//Rebel’. Primed with a wild and untamed energy pushing against the calculated and refined sound which Woolfe has achieved through years of practicing her craft, the outcome is an explosion of intensely honest and compelling expression. With a very short intro which could have come out of Syd Barrett’s playbook and acts like the calm before the storm, ‘Mother//Rebel’ quickly takes flight. Drums cascade and crash down like hailstones, guitars are raw and thunderous, while Woolfe’s vocals fierce and commanding interject flashes of light like lightning bolts illuminating a dark and moody late evening skyline.

Having penned ‘Mother//Rebel’ barefooted and clothed in her mother’s silk dress on a full moon night and in a moment of despair, Woolfe uses music as one of her many mediums in order not only to express herself but also explore, process and better understand her own feelings and experiences. Much like her curated night ‘A Woman Becomes A Wolf’ where the musician can be found hosting a welcoming collective of people performing anything from music, poetry to dance with the aim of creating a space for underrepresented voices to express themselves in a safe and community driven environment. ‘Mother//Rebel’ is released alongside a video directed and edited by Percy Walker-Smith as well as a striking black & white portrait of Woolfe taken by Alfie Jones for the artwork, hair unruly, clad in white makeup and dark lipstick staring fiercely with a piercing gaze.
