London indie-rockers Slumber return with ‘1993 (Shake It)’, which is a hot-and-heavy follow-up to their debut that trades sparkle for sweat. Out on May 23rd, the track conjured a kind of pseudo-nostalgia that makes you want to dig out your knee high Converse and reactivate your Tumblr account.

‘1993 (Shake It)’ is all about letting go, of subtlety, of self-consciousness, and of any expectation other than having a good, messy time. It’s an ode to the imaginary cool of a year some of us weren’t old enough to remember, built on heavy power chords and a chorus that hits harder than the ease of the verses.

There’s nothing wildly new, or nuanced about this track, it’s simply indie sleaze revived for summer: earthy, dirty and easy to love. It’s the sonic equivalent of catching your reflection in a shop window after one too many drinks and thinking—fuck, I look kind of hot. Slumber’s track isn't reinventing the genre, but with this track, they don’t need to. They’re just contributing to the sex appeal of indie sleaze.
