Finnish Garage Rock trio Have You Ever Seen The Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? release new single 'Pool'

Words by Ursa Gregson

Have You Ever Seen The Jane Fonda Aerobics VHS? I haven't either, but don't let that deter you from listening to the band who take their name from this burning question. HYESTJFVHS (the acronym is as majestic as the moniker) hail from Kouvola, Finland and now, friends, their new single is out. It's called 'Pool'.

A two-and-a-half-minute barrage of eighties versus nineties and synth-rock versus garage-rock, 'Pool' is the kind of solid headbanger that forms the backbone of a live set and sets the pace for a record - a lot of fun, essentially. I can't quite get the image out of my head of Frank Black fronting Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, which is frankly a first. Influences fly thick and fast but are fed through HYE...'s own joyful oddball filter. Songwriter/guitarist/keyboardist Ekku Lintunen, drummer Janne-Petteri Pitkälä and singer/bassist Susse tip their hats to 60s girl groups, punk, glam, grunge and NYC indie when generating their eclectic style. Kippis!

The single is taken from the trio's new album 'Maine Coon' - coming June the 3rd on VILD Records.

'Pool' comes complete with a video which the band describe as "...if John Waters had Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun in the Finnish town of Koria, the outcome would have been something like this." Check it out below.
