Blending angst and nostalgia, London post-gaze 5-piece, Ain’t, deliver their
sullen second single, out now via Fear of Missing Out Records.
A softer track than their confrontational debut, ‘Teething’ is no less angst-
driven, brooding in self-pity and sorrow. Produced by Oli Barton Wood (The
Big Moon, Do Nothing, Shame), the track embraces the subtler side of
shoegaze and 90s guitar music. The spacious mix phases hazy
tremolo guitar between VHS harmonics and swampy palm muting, with
each member dropping in and out, drawing attention to their hook-driven
instrumentation. Lead vocalist Hanna Baker Darch’s distant, yearning
vocals flow through vivid interwoven rhythms, underpinned by the soft lines
and melodic flourishes of the bass. With moments of wistful dissonance,
the track saunters between textures, filtering the ache of rejection through
the band’s scowling sound.
Coming off the back of their hotly-received debut single ‘Oar’, Ain’t have
delivered again with their latest offering, with the new-comers cementing
themselves as one of London’s most exciting alternative shoegaze bands.
Both tracks feature on their 7” vinyl, available now via Fear of Missing out
Records.
